Nathan "Lyle" DeHaven Obituary

Nathan "Lyle" DeHaven

Lyle, age 56, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2012 after a short bout with cancer, with his wife Maria, sister Donna, and Maria's family by his side. Lyle was born January 26, 1956 in Wichita, Kansas, to Claress Kraft DeHaven and Dean Edward DeHaven. He graduated from East High School in 1974 and attended Wichita State University. While at East High, Lyle was a competitive swimmer and won numerous swim meets. In 1980, Lyle met the love of his life, Maria Galliart, through mutual friends and they were married on December 30, 1982. After several years together in Wichita, Lyle and Maria moved to the Seattle area, originally living in Renton and later in Federal Way. In Renton, Lyle began an 18-year career as a travel agent with AAA-Washington and retired early in 2005. We are grateful for the time we had with him.

He was an outdoor enthusiast and loved boating, fishing, crabbing, sports, and being with family and friends. He was also a dedicated Seattle Seahawk fan. Lyle was kind, strong yet gentle, compassionate, and fun-loving, with a sly sense of humor. He always put the needs of others ahead of his own. Preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dean DeHaven, Jr. (Sue; children Shelly, Tammy, Michael), Lyle is survived by his loving wife of 29 years Maria; sister Donna Ostaszewski of San Antonio, Texas (Chester; children Joe, Tim, Mark, Matthew); and brother Philip DeHaven of San Antonio, Texas.

Viewing will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 6, 2012, both at the Yahn & Son Funeral Home (, Auburn, immediately followed by a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn. Memorials may be made in Lyle's name to the American Cancer Society.
