Wynkoop, Sherrie, 55, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on April 14, 2012, surrounded by her loving family and devoted husband. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 17, with family receiving from 6-8 pm at Resthaven Mortuary. Memorial service at the Vineyard Church of Wichita, 2020 E. Blake, Wednesday at 11:00 am and Celebration of Life afterwards at The Willowbend Golf Club. Sherrie was born in Wichita with her identical twin Merrie on November 9, 1956 to Don and Zelma Elsen and attended local schools, graduating from Buhler High School in 1974. After high school, she attended the Wichita Business College and went to work for the Wichita Public Works Department. While there, she met John Wynkoop, then director of the water department, and they were later married in 1985. Sherrie later worked for Beech Aircraft for sixteen years, but left in 1992 to attend nursing school at Wichita State University and graduated in 1995. She worked as a school nurse for nine years at Colvin and Gammon elementary schools and retired in 2006. Besides her family, Sherrie's passion was golf, and she eventually became one of the top women golfers in the city, winning the Willowbend club championship five times and the Wichita Senior Women's Championship in 2010. She was preceded in death by her nephew Christopher Elsen and stepson Karl. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband John, stepsons Eric (Nirmala) of Kansas City, Missouri and Paul of Las Vegas, mother Zelma Elsen, father Don (June) of Blue Jacket, Oklahoma, siblings Dennis (DeEtte), Debbie (Mike) Welch of Pratt, KS, twin Merrie East, Thomas, Ronald (Sandi) of Savannah, GA, three step grandsons, Joshua, Spencer and Logan of Las Vegas, granddaughter Alpha of Kansas City and twelve nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated in her honor to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and The Lord’s Diner.
